It really is a bummer. We are heartbroken that we cannot, in good faith, hold Kami-Con Season 13 in 2021 as originally planned. What this means for Kami-Con is that we will simply skip a year, and delay Season 13 into the spring of 2022. No tickets have been sold yet for Season 13, so the good news is that no one needs to worry about refunds or rollovers. Just please hold onto your enthusiasm for the Kami-Con experience, and let’s all look forward to when it is safe for us to gather together with those who share the same enthusiasm again in the future! In the meantime, we’d like to assure you that Kami-Con and our staff will be okay. Most of the staff are volunteers, and even the senior leadership all have day jobs to pay the bills. Many other conventions have been hosting virtual events in 2020. These have been great ways for them to maintain a connection to their community, and to fulfill contracts with their guests, vendors, and other partners. We were very lucky that Kami-Con Season 12 was hosted at the beginning of 2020. Part of what that means is that we don’t currently have the same sorts of preexisting contracts with guests, vendors, and other partners that need to be honored for our event originally scheduled for 2021.

Because of this, we do not intend to host a virtual convention. We don’t feel that our congoers would be best served by this type of experience, or that we are capable of producing a virtual convention that is up to the standards of quality that we hold for ourselves. Instead, we will be focusing all of our efforts on the next time we will be able to safely and responsibly gather together in person for the full Kami-Con experience.

This is an excellent question! While we don’t have anything to announce at this time, we are continuing to monitor how things are progressing with regards to health and safety. We would love to be able to host something in 2021—possibly sometime in the fall if we deem it to be responsible and safe. So please check back for future updates to come.

We will make future announcements when we open applications for Vendor Room and Artist Alley, as well as for panel submissions. We expect to host Kami-Con Season 13 more or less as normal, just in 2022 instead of 2021. Please keep an eye out for future updates as the con gets closer!

We will continue monitoring the situation across the United States and around the world to ensure that we are able to responsibly, and in good faith, host Kami-Con Season 13 in the spring of 2022. Due to the depth of uncertainty right now, it is difficult to give a firm answer to this question. We expect that by the spring or summer of 2021 we will have a clearer picture of what is likely to come over the next year into the spring of 2022, and will be better able to produce concrete plans and thereby make concrete announcements. So please stay tuned, but it’s likely we won’t have any more big announcements for at least a few months.
